Just like most pieces of clothing, jackets too are of different cuts and shapes based on gender. There are some jackets that are unisex, but mostly this is not the case. What is the main point of difference between jackets for women and men? Well, jackets for women are generally slimmer and the cuts are different than those meant for men. This is a very common feature of most jackets, and hence, one should be aware of them while purchasing one. Starting right from button types to cuts, the differences between male and female jackets are very pronounced.
The main differences
Jackets are mainly of two types – fashion wear and protective wear. Fashion wear jackets are almost never unisex. Women’s jackets come with curves that are slim and are meant to complement the curves of the person who is wearing it. Men and women have a lot of physical attributes that are sharply different from each other and so such jackets are also difference in shape and cut because of that. Colour also plays a very important role when it comes to jackets. Jackets, meant for men, are, generally, dark in colour, until and unless they are summer jackets, which can be of different shades. Recent fashion trends include incorporating floral prints as a part of menswear jackets as well, but they are yet to become centre stage or a roaring favourite. The common favourite continues to be dark colours and straight cuts. For women, the story is a little different. For starters, colours are of different varieties when it comes to women’s jackets. Starting from shocking pink to pitch black, the colour options are plenty. The cuts too are quite different as pointed out earlier. This is mainly true for fashion wear jackets.
The points of difference are not so pronounced when it comes to jackets meant for protective wear. There the main point of difference is the colour. There is generally a stripe or two of different colours which demarcate which jacket is meant for which gender. There is also the question of standard sizes. While men’s jackets are quite larger, those for women are more petite in size.
Thus, the differences are there when it comes to jackets of both the genders. While the types of jackets available for both would be different, women have more option to choose from than men. As and when the fashion world for men continue to expand, the types of jackets too would keep on increasing.
